To my surprise once I landed at the airport I was able to register for IBM think Right there!! Huge time saver… felt sorry for those who were stuck in that massive live on Monday! IBm gets Bonus Points for this!!
My Hotel was Luxor, my first choice was booked but this hotel was perfect. It had a free tram and an easy walk to everything. So no complaints.

First day was amazing… I was not expecting a full breakfast but I am glad it was there. I was also introduced to a new Dessert.. Baked Pancakes with blueberries!! That stuff is good!!
As a new Champ this was really surreal.. the way IBM handled this day was amazing. Of course meeting some of the other champs and making some new friends was awesome too!! More Bonus points for IBM!
Also have to Send a big shout out to Libby and Alan for really making this an amazing Experience for me.
I also have to thank C3UG, <a href="http://www.c3ug.ca/">the Cross Canada Collaboration User Group (C3UG)</a> for letting me be in their Videos and keeping us informed of all the going ons at Think. Quick tip for C3UG,, Next time you ask me to be in a video please insure I am sober!!

If that is about all the negative stuff I could think of then that must mean this conference was pretty good!
Main conference themes for me was
<ol>
<li>IBM is getting Watson in Everything</li>
<li>Bid Data + AI will be a game changer</li>
<li>Cloud everything, Cloud Apps, Cloud Development, Cloud Migration</li>
</ol>
But that does not mean there was no Domino news.. In fact there was tons. but before we dive into that.. lets recap what occurred before the conference..

Here my opinion of the state of Domino after the conference:
IBM domino development team now works for HCL and I am also guessing that some HCL Developers are also helping out.
As a result, this is probably the biggest investment in Domino in the last 5 year maybe even 10 years!!.
IBM/HCL visited Multiple countries/cites, to gather a wish list of changes from customers and partners to collect feedback and requests and bundle it all in for the next Domino release for Oct.

And they actually listened to our feedback and did stuff!! As crazy as it sounds the stuff they did was exactly what we need and went well beyond my expectations.. in fact I am sure it went beyond anyone’s expectations.
Here a quick list of what was announced
<ol>
<li>IPAD full notes client to be released soon, followed by Iphone, and Android versions. This is huge for us because we have 300 customs apps that will now just work. On top of that our notes app look good. And our users perfer them over the Xpage versions.</li>
</ol>
This was Notes app definitely not on my radar, nor have I would have ever expected this in my wildest dreams. As soon as I get access to this this will be a game changer in my company.

2. Integration of Node.Js and using domino as a No sql database. Playing with the same tools as everyone and developing apps app meeting today standards is huge. This will allow us to level up our skills as well as allow Devs from outside our community to help out or even dive in.
3. <a href="https://www.teamworkr.com/">Teamworkr </a>a tool to easily push domino apps to the web and make sure they look good. You guys should check out what they are doing there. With the Notes App for mobile we may consider this for our Customer and Supplier facing apps.
4. Watson assisted Notes apps. I have herd some rumors about this. I Can’t wait to hear more about it.
5. Notes Apps in the cloud. You can replicate your domino apps to the cloud, it is about $270 for 10 apps.
6. Microservices coming to domino
So lets go full Circle now
Notes app on mobile + Teamworkr + 5G Network + Notes App in the Cloud + Add some microservices + Add some Watson = Thats Some pretty powerful stuff!!

Watson
IBM main focus now is Watson, Watson is the Current AI in Oracle, Salesforce, Red Bull, Maserati, Hospitals, Hilton, Universities … Many companies are using Watson and then simply rebrand it as their own. (Salesforce, Einstein is Watson)
Quantum Computing
IBM is currently the only company with a quantum computer and hopes to have it available for home use in under 5 years
IBM Workspace
IBM Workspace is sort of collaboration app like sametime chat but it is more Group Chat centered and the chat groups are permanent and contain all history. IBM Watson also participates in the chat and can answer questions, look up information, bring up all discussions on a previous discussed topic. In addition, be used to perform Complex tasks. In the example, provided IBM Watson was used to schedule a meeting retrieve important information, set up a meeting and Book a flight to the destination.
5G NETWORK IBM Partnership with Ericson
Cell phone communication at seeds of 1 GB per Sec to 20 GB per Sec. At that speed, its like your mobile devices are connected to your LAN.
Imagine combining this with the Notes app. Having the full client on your mobile device with a lan connection! This is major good news! The world Go Live Date is in 2020.
Blockchain
Blockchain this.. and blockchain that. I am not going to say too much about this because if the taxi companies didn’t like being disrupted by uber… Imagine how the banking industry will react when we no longer need them to move large amounts of money. I am still in the watch and see mode for this.

Its official, the count down has begun, 4 days to go!!
Here are a few things to remember and a few quick tips..
<ul>
<li>You can forget the sunscreen, unlike Orlando you will not be seeing the sun!!</li>
<li>For all you health conscious people you can attend Yoga, Jogging and kick boxing in the morning and Yoga and Jogging in the evening</li>
<li>When you arrive or go to the airport tell the cabby no Tunnel to avoid getting long hauled</li>
<li>There is a whole Food Grocery store further south at Town Square Mall</li>
<li>There several Walmart circling the Vegas strip. If you Rent a car get your essentials at the Walmart next to the airport.</li>
<li>Mandalay Bay has the 3 rd largest Aquarium in North America, so check it out</li>
<li>There is a free monorail that connects Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur</li>
<li>There are other monorails that charge a fee. <a href="https://www.vegas.com/transportation/las-vegas-monorails/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Monorail map</a></li>
<li>There is a shopping Mall that connects Luxor and Mandalay bay if you would perfer to walk.</li>

<li>The official Hangout spot picked by the Queen of colaboration Gab is Mizuya</li>
<li>The Tuesday Night party “Ephox Aussie Party @ House of Blues so find their booth and get your invite (Hint booth 721)</li>
<li>The Sunday Sessions are opened to all registered attendees and the sessions are at MGM grand</li>
<li>There are shuttle buses from the different hotels</li>
<li>If someone is snapping cards on the Vegas Strip, its best you do not take their business cards. If you don’t know what I am talking about.. you will before you leave vegas.</li>
<li>Bring more then one pair of shoes you will be doing a lot of walking</li>
<li>Know when to take it easy on the drinks</li>
<li>Each hotel has a different attraction worth checking out. So do some home work. Like the <a href="http://www.bellagio.com/amenities/fountains-of-bellagio.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bellagio fountains, </a><a href="http://www.mandalaybay.com/entertainment/sharkreef.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shark Reef</a><a href="http://www.bellagio.com/amenities/fountains-of-bellagio.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> </a>, <a href="http://nynyhotelcasino.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York-New York</a> rollar coster, <a href="http://www.vegasexperience.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fremont Street </a></li>
<li>What happens in Vegas no longer stays in Vegas, chances are your family will see what you have for dinner before you even taste it. So keep it kool and remember this is still a cooperate place and you are representing your company</li>
<li>Always bet on Black</li>
<li>Time Zone and Jet lag + drinks and long days, early mornings will take a tool on you.</li>
<li>Bring your medication and a small pharmacy, or buy it when you arrive.</li>
<li>Sessions are kool but seeing what other are doing can be kooler, so go out and see the vendors, sponsors and Biz partners. Plus gifts are nice too.</li>
<li>Meet the champions!! We are next to the food and drinks!! Also if you know no one, we will gladly drink with you and party it up with you.</li>
</ul>

I have to admin my batteries are low, I ran out of the Blue Kool aid about 6 months ago and am in desperate need of a pick me up. 
Having this event one month later, show how much I need this yearly get away. I almost feel like I am suffering from withdrawals. It may be a Canadian thing, one can only handle the cold for so long.

Such fond Memories,.. had to have been my best connect ever.
That being said Miss Inhi Cho Suh you better bring it!!
So Orlando’s out, it is not only a new location, this year.. Its in Freaking San Fran!! I have no idea how this will affect my party stamina, being 3 hours off. But I will try to make the most of it. If you see me dosing off please hand me another drink.
Also a suggestion from my blog last year.. Any booth that offers a late breakfast will see me as soon as I wake up.
As usual my Boss asked me this year do you think it is worth it this year. And my response was I have no idea.. no one is talking about the parties yet or the special event and we are less then 20 days away. This worries both of us. But hey its freaking SF downtown!!! We can make our own party! No Worries!
Plus I already contacted the party crew from last year and were all making it down.. so we plan to be causing some trouble In SF.
In other news we actually have a few concerns and questions we need answering so it may be worth attending and we will be able to justify the adventure.. I mean trip

<li>Watson Workspace.. when we getting it for real corporate use?? And not fun and games? How will the Lic work</li>
<li>Verse on Prem.. Yeah looks kool. Where the workspace..apps? I guess I need that browser thing whose name keeps changing?</li>
<li>So wats the plan with the client.. They ever getting the fancy Verse look? Guess not..</li>
<li>When can I use Webex in connection cloud?</li>
<li>I played with blue mix I see the future in it .. but I still need help!!</li>
<li>Can we have verse on Prem and Files, profile in the smart cloud</li>
<li>Whats the deal with xpages.. u know wat I mean!</li>
<li>How much time we have before the IBM Watson uprising starts</li>
<li>We are in the process or running double check also .. So I am sure once done I will have tons of questions for pangenda and IBM.</li>
<li>Also my annual complaint to the devs of how much xpinc sucks when you want to do something Big. To which they suggest use run of server option to which I say it prompts for a password. To which they will say use a policy to Remember the users password. To which I say can you provide a document on how to do that. (because I have already done that and it was ridiculously complicated). Then they will say talk to the policy team. Then I will say I already have implemented this and the results in the users locking themselves out of the app when they change their password because now they also have to manual type there password in some random field in Notes Preferences, Accounts. If you have no idea what I am talking about be thankfull!!</li>
<li>Can you make this saml stuff easy</li>

My Connect 2016 Story: Day 2 and something

Day 2 was an early start, I think it was the only time I managed to catch breakfast. For any sponsor who want extra visitors to your booth if you had a breakfast giveaway each morning for all those who missed breakfast I am sure you would get a lot more traction. The OGS was kool, some people didn’t like the guest speaker, I found him entertaining. The Canned demo and script was good, over all I liked what I saw.
The only thing missing was the big “Available Now product launch” but I can understand sometimes things don’t line up. Knowing that verse on prem, is coming soon, runs on domino and some other magic was good news to me! I have quite a few complaints with the current Notes Client, and the whole xpinc experience. I hope it resolves some of these issues as well.

– Nathan’s Once you go Graph… the topic was a little out there but entertaining. I would really need to see/play with some sort of Demo app before I am ready to make the plunge. Always an amazing conversationalist!

– John Jardin’s Optimus Xpages… John, John, John, just yesterday you were my favorite presenter, We talked, shared stories, you were the man!! Then you had to go and do this presentation and show me that everything I thought was best practice for xpages was wrong, (not actually wrong but out dated) and just like that everything changed. Just when I thought I got a handle of this Xpages thing and set up a whole bunch of internal best practices for it and thinking I know my sh*t. John comes along and tells me I have fallen behind, and gave me a whole new set of best practices to follow. Must see for session for any Xpages Dev.

By the way John lied no Autobots or anyone on cyberton uses Xpages, not because its bad!! They like it but they were never able to successfully download Domino from Passport advantage. They are looking at Blue Mix, cause there is nothing to download.

Next up were the parties, my aussie crew got tickets to of course the aussie party, and as usual I never made it to the booth to get my ticket, and there was no way I could fake an aussie accent anyways!! So we agreed that if one of the parties were a bit dry we would crash the others party, and with that we were off.
My First stop was the Canadian Party(more of a standup dinner party) accompanied by two beautiful ladies, Ms Kim Greene and a coworker of mine Frankie. The Canadian party was very nice, but filled with very few Canadians, sorta like the aussie party I guess minus the alcoholics and trouble makers, besides as Canadian were too polite to turn anyone down.

We stayed till it was time to go and made our way to BB lounge thank you Wipro for a good night. Food and open bar was good, band was good! But the party had trouble starting, so the band did its best to find beautiful women to start the party I did my best to get the beautiful Kim selected and soon the whole bar was chanting Kim, Kim, Kim. No good deed goes unpunished as I was forced to accompany Kim to the dance floor and got this party official started. (My job here was done) If anyone has pics of this please send em to me, in my heighten state of consciousness I am sure we looked a little like this.

As usual no party is compete until some random guy jumps on stage and starts removing his attire (for the record it wasn’t me). By the end of it all we made friends with the band the staff met a few random peeps and decided it was time to take on the aussies.
Like all people who are slightly intoxicated we hailed a bicycle taxi jumped on and headed to the aussie party. No joke a bike taxi!! How kool!! The Bike guy dropped us right in front of the bouncers and we were ushered in like we were superstars, it was even better than my prom.

Only weird thing was the guys who worked in the bathroom were overly friendly/aggressive, it was agreed for the first time in history no guy should venture to the bathroom alone. You had to experience it to believe it. The dueling pianos was amazing and of course we partied it up and made a few new connections as well as made friends with the band. It was a memorable night. After they shut down the place we once again ended up on the 17 floor for the after party, whoever room it was love you man. We met the sirius group there and for the life of me I had no clue who they were until they said they used to be Acendant. I was like dude your south park commercial rock you have to bring them back. They had no clue what I was talking about. There was another girl there also who kept asking me to test her Rich Text Field, not sure if she was serious or just flirting with me, she made me pinky promise. I have co clue which partner it was so someone let me know. I pinky promised
So with that it made for 1 kool OGS, 2 Great Breakout sessions and 4 parties in 1 night. Not bad for the First official day of the conference and day 2 and something.

My Connection 2016 Story Day 1 and a half 
Alright Boys and Girls this isn’t a technical break down of what happened @ connect because there are a lot of other bloggers who are much smarter than me who have already taken care of that. This is basically my story of Connect and the adventure that transpired. 
Before I begin let set the scene. I am the Dev and admin so I get blamed for everything. That being said I missed Connect last year because I just became a dad again and I have stopped drinking the Lotus koolaid for a while.

Probably due to several issues that I felt were never properly resolved by IBM and for the first time in my life I had two projects fail and to make it worse they were back to back due to technical issues beyond my control so let just say I was not a fan of IBM. To make it worse I was having a mid life crisis and had just began to question my career choice/options. And just before I left for Connect I read an overly critical doomsday email from one of my Favorite bloggers which echoed and reinforced my current sentiments even more. (Peter, by any chance did you take the wrong pill that day? After Connect I don’t think it is as bad as you think it is, also I never tried it but I heard the reviews for the blue pill are pretty good.)

With that mindset I printed my unresolved PMRs and screen captured my current issues, in total 15 pages long and was fully prepared to go postal at the meet the Devs lab.

Next step I packed my bags hoped on a plane and headed to the Hilton. First impression, this is a small venue, not sure I am going to get my money’s worth. But all was soon forgotten as I had lunch by the pool which was refreshing followed by a quick nap, not cause I am old but it is new dad syndrome, sleep whenever possible. Next I was off to get registered. The registration process I found was very social and fun experience (IBM do not go back to the old method). I could tell I was one of the first ones because me and the “ask me guy” were a little confused but he was a funny guy so all was fun. I whipped out my QR code and he was shocked he never saw any one try that, and off I was, and then Boom, the first security question was the Name of your first Pet. I was in deep trouble, cause I never had a pet. I guess I did not pay much attention when I was filling that section out cause I thought I would not need it. We both started laughing out loud when the correct answer to my first pet was my wife’s name. Anyways next thing you know I got my badge, and I was really hoping my pic would be on it also since we did everything on the Ipad, maybe next year. Then thinks got awkward as I waited for my handbag and soon realized there was none. It was a little shocking but no biggy. I did get a selfie stick Yeah!!!, perfect for any anti social guy not looking to make connections at connect!! My only major issue with this is I missed the pocket calendar, and a small notebook to take notes. Next time I will be prepared. Also if customers are #1 why was our number 6 the last number on any badge? Again no biggie.
Next was the Beer tasting, loved this event. Beer will always be more social then IBM Connect and will always have more users.

For those who could, the after beer party on the 17 floor, whoever room it was love you man!!!
After very few hours’ sleep I was up and started my day. Was a bit disappointed that Customers had to scramble for their own meal and business partners got the deluxe treatment. Next up was the Jumpstarts at 1pm but there were no Domino Admin or Domino Dev sessions to start the conference was bummed about that.
But all was forgotten as I watched John Jardin rock his Blue Mix session, by far the presenter I enjoyed the most this year. If you’re a Dev and you are not playing with Blue mix you are falling behind. His Demo included Domino, twitter, Watson and taught Spanish. All my doubt about my career options/choice and the future of IBM were answered (no blue pill needed <img src="https://s0.wp.com/wp-content/mu-plugins/wpcom-smileys/twemoji/2/72x72/1f609.png" alt="😉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> ) And watching John do his Live Demos was even more impressive.

Next was the big show, at the Solution Expo, and I have to say IBM got it right the room size the cross traffic the little theater in the back, the snacks and coffee. Everything was just right!!
The Welcome Reception was perfect good food and drinks and the Asponte Rocks @ the Lafayette Room rocked!! Good band and Drinks who could ask for more!! But most of all I loved the little party town with all the bars and clubs side by side. This place was happening, who could ask for more! Well I guess some of us could I ended up on the 17 floor for the after party once again. I have no idea whose room it was but thanks again!!
All this crazy excitement and the conference technically still did not even begin, and I already got my moneys worth!!
Day 1 and a half and I had fun, I learned a few things, had a few drinks, made a few connections did a few stupid things and was truly inspired. As much as I loved the swan and dolphin I did not miss it. Nor would I want to go back. I feel like the times have changed and so have we, no need to revisit the ghost of the past, because I for one am no longer looking in the past. For the first time in a many years I have a lot of optimism, I am excited and I have a plan. I will be mixing it up with blue mix and trying to make the impossible possible just like what this conference did to me. I know it soundz like I had a few too many and I probably did. But this is really how I feel.

I you are going to IBM connect then you probable got an email from IBM letting you know you can connect to their connection site by:
“Point your desktop or mobile browser to <a href="http://ibmeventconnect.com/connect">ibmeventconnect.com/connect</a> and create your profile using your registration email id as the user id and your registration confirmation code (included below) as your password.”
You can also use the IBM Event Connect app from your device store.
But what if you do not want to use your pc or mobile Browser, you prefer the IBM Connection client. Then use this URL in the to set it up.
