2. While always the purpose of dockeriot was to bring the "containerized" world to embedded devices, the advance in technology leads to new paths an developments, nowadays GCP and AWS clouds provide different solutions for the IOT world.
3.
4. The embedded/IOT and cloud worlds are increasingly approaching, for example now you can run a Machine learning model on an Arduino, some years ago this was not considered.
5.
6. Taking this lead, Ive updated dockeriot architecture to account Cloud - IOT interactions.
7.
8. https://github.com/dirakx1/dockeriot
9.
10. The main change is on the "analitycs layer" of dockeriot and is cloud neutral,
11. that is the essential blocks can be implemented in both AWS and/or GCP. interestingly this could bring new developments to dockeriot and the aforementioned gap (mostly a definition gap more than a non-possibility gap) between cloud and iot or cloud and embedded.
12.
13. Hopefully some day I could make a product from dockeriot, there is a difficulty to get track, investment or attention to some kinds of projects, but the ability that this solution has to interact and adapt to new developments makes me think that 1. is well designed 2. has some purpose or future!.
14.
15. new branches of development need to be open on dockeriot! and that's always good:
16.
17. * Cloud interactions.
18. * Environmental layer development.
19. * Blockchain use cases.
20.
21. p.s I believe the ultimate goal for cloud and embedded/iot would be to have a common arquitecture references for chips used. something like : https://opentitan.org/
22.
23.
24.
25.
26.
27.
28.
34. platform to develop iot platform using containers.
35. But why is this needed ? . and also taking into account that embedded devices often lack of ram, cpu.. and other capabilities. Probably because that every day IOT applications are more and more complex, and if all the goodness that containerized images can be translated to the embedded world, this would imply
36. for example:
37.
38. * rapid development of applications.
39. * rapid deployment-redeployment of applications.
40. * standardization of installation/configuration of software on multiple (hundreds..thousands of devices).
41.
42. It seems a natural advance to integrate all the goodness of cloud - clustered world to the embedded world.
43.
44. So all my design is a POC, that still need to have some work to have a usable example application but all the foundations are developed now, and its interesting to see that the concept can be applied to all the IOT layers (http://www.iotsense.io/blog/the-layers-of-iot/) and that can be extended into high level container orchestration tools like docker swarm and Kubernetes.
45.
46. Ok for this post now i hope i can come back later...and anyway if someone can help on developing this "tech" also I'm making an startup..as always founding is needed!.
, que has hecho ?
202.
203.
204.
205.
206.
207.
208.
212. with IMAP (https://docs.python.org/2/library/imaplib.html) you have handy all the RTFC email commands.
252.

 253.

 254.

 255. http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2011/05/why-google-choosing-arduino-matters-and-the-end-of-made-for-ipod-tm.html

 256.

 257.

 258.

 259. This developing platform [Android Open Accessory Kit] based on Arduino, basically enables hardware and software developers to adapt devices to Android phones and in general to Android apps.

 260.

 261.

 262.

 263. Reading this news I remembered some efforts that We have been doing since more than three years with olpc and sugar in this sense:

 264.

 265.

 266.

 267. http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Open_Hardware

 268.

 269. http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Peripherals

 270.

 271.

 272.

 273. At the software front people of the sugar community have worked on Arduino connections to Turtle Art , Turtle Blocks and Etoys.

 274.

 275.

 276.

 277. http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Development_Team/Arduino

 278.

 279.

 280.

 281. There is now a thoughtful plan to have different software for various educational robotics kits like Lego Wedo in olpc builds.

 282.

 283.

 284.

 285. http://wiki.laptop.org/go/11.2.0/Robotics_plan

 286.

 287.

 288.

 289. Mostly we have been focusing on platforms for robotics learning, but I think we can move forward and make a real physical computing integration, making easy to develop both software and hardware than can talk with the XO and Sugar, taking advantage or ideas from the Google open accessory kit and its possible integrations with different industries that work with hardware devices.

 290.

 291.

 292.

 293. We must bring these physical computing innovation to

 294.

 295. a more wide base of people and learners (This kit is very costly), and we have this opportunity because the already begun efforts are based on the low cost platform Arduino; the combination with free software can make this a reality!.

 296.

 297.

 298.

 299. Imagine the same quality of Google developer platforms but for lower costs and accessible for the almost two millions children that use Sugar.

 300.

 301.

 302.

 303. Would be anyone interested in founding such an effort?.

 304.

 305.

 306.

 307. Maybe Google ? Nahh..I'm too optimistic :).

 308.

 309.

 310.

 321.

 322.
323. For starters you would have to go to our web-ui git instance called [gitorious
324.

 325. http://gitorious.org/],
326.

 327.

 328.

 329. http://git.sugarlabs.org

 330.

 331.
332. you can clone

 333.

 334.

 335.

 336. git clone git://git.sugarlabs.org/yourproject/mainline.git

 337.

 338.

 339.

 340. or make a personal clone of a project of your election on the web-ui.

 341.

 342.

 343.

 344. keep your project up-to-date with

 345.

 346.

 347.

 348. git pull

 349.

 350.

 351.

 352. you can also make a patch and sent it ot the developer
353.

 354.

 355.

 356. git format-patch HEAD^

 357.

 358.

 359.

 360. Note: is preferable that you generate your patch from the root directory of your project.

 361.
362. if you want more visibility or reviews you can also send your patch to sugar-dev mail list.
363.

 364.

 365. git format-patch -s -1

 366.

 367. git send-email --to maintainer --cc mailing-list filename

 368.

 369.

 370.

 371. For example:

 372.

 373.

 374.

 375. git send-email --to=sugar-devel@lists.sugarlabs.org 0001*.patch

 376.

 377.
378. as a maintainer you can apply patches, sent by others, in this case you have

 379.

 380. a file called sugar_fixes.patch

 381.

 382.

 383.

 384. git apply --stat sugar_fixes.patch

 385.

 386. git apply --check sugar_fixes.patch

 387.

 388. git apply --apply sugar_fixes.patch or git am --signoff

 389.

 390.

 391.

 392. o make merge requests using gitorious ui.
393.
394. Some commands may seem very hard, but it's a matter of practice, and the combination of command line interface and gitorious ui, could be very practical both for development in terms of code maintain and for coordinated and collaborative development between various people.
395.

 396.

There is a divergence of times between technological development and education development, but it's necessary to shorten this divergence. although it's difficult to set times i propose we must have a 6-month state of the project discussion where we take into count not only tecnological or pedagogical outcomes but rather interseptions between these two. For lack of resources if we cannot do it physically we must do it virtually. This state of the project discussions (could be associated to sugar camps), should say to us how and why to correct mistakes and in short give us better understanding of our paths and objectives.

Testing New Sugar and OLPC Images.

For i time now, I've been focusing in other projects, and left some of sugar and OLPC,

After going back I've found that community is always improving and development Sugar and OLPC, together :). In my spare time i managed to test new builds on an Xo 1.5

the documentation is here:

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Release_notes/10.1.2

But the fun part is to test latest builds...

http://build.laptop.org/F14/os2/xo-1.5/

http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Dextrose

The last one, refers to F14 images for all XOs, the dextrose part refers to

Sugarlabs work to bring latest Sugar to all types of XO.

The great opportunity here is to unite these efforts to launch a Dextrose version

together with OLPC, Sugar Labs, Activity Central..and other parties working on this.

Anyways these images still need a lot of testing, but there are many people out there working on it.

When OLPC started there were no low cost laptops. We created the category less than four years ago and it now represents almost one third of the world production of latops. I am not aware of too many technologies that have gone from “impossible” to such wide adoption.

The million laptops, our little green ones, that are in the hands of children, are currently in 19 languages and 31 countries. Another million are on their way. Not bad. But even better, these countries include Afghanistan, Haiti, Ethiopia, as well as places like the West Bank (and next month Gaza). Even better, eh?

I suggest you look more carefully at Uruguay, Peru and Rwanda. In the case of Uruguay, every child has one. That is pretty amazing. Peru is headed there. Rwanda too. In fact, we have moved our learning group (as of early June) to Kigali perminently, to be in the field and get the kind of feedback you claim we ignore.

Anyway. I do not normally answer press and blogs, because we would spend all our time with words, not actions in the field But you are on a UN site and the UN is our partner. Check out Kofi Annan’s words -- they have been fulfilled. Has it been harder than I expected? Yes. But do you know why? It is not due to what I had anticipated, things like corruption and logistics. It has been due to commercial interests and press, stories like yours.

As a small non-profit, humanitarian organization, it is hard to battle giants who view children as a market, not a mission, and have other agendas. In spite of all that, the change is huge. I no longer hear people arguing against “one laptop per child” as a concept. The issue is purely a matter of funding and there are many ways to do that. Wait and see.

Nicholas Negroponte''

And Walter's one:

''I am writing in response to Alanna Shaikh’s 9/9/09 article, “One Laptop Per Child – The Dream is Over”.

Not only is the dream not over, the OLPC project has created an opportunity for the pursuit of more dreams by many more people.

I was Nicholas Negroponte’s partner in founding One Laptop per Child. As Nicholas has elegantly stated in his response to Ms. Shaikh’s blog, we spawned the netbook market, which is bringing the price of computing within reach of millions more people. In addition, we launch a free software initiative, Sugar Labs, that is putting educational software into the hands of children.

Sugar Labs (www.sugarlabs.org) is an independent outgrowth of OLPC. We are a global community of volunteers—teachers and software developers—whose mission is to bring the advantages of the Sugar learning platform to children everywhere, on any computer. Sugar was designed specially for children and offers a better alternative for young learners than traditional “office-desktop” software. Indeed, nothing in our children’s future has anything to do with office work from 30 years ago.

Ms. Shaikh is mistaken in her assertion that OLPC has abandoned “the special child-friendly OS.” More than 99% of the OLPC laptops in the hands of children run Sugar. Governments prefer Sugar because of its superior quality, openness, built-in collaboration, easy internationalization and localization to indigenous languages, and unbeatable price (free).

Sugar on a Stick, our latest initiative, allows children fortunate enough to have access to a computer at school, in the community, at home (or only the occasional access to a computer in an Internet café) to benefit from Sugar with a simple USB stick, which costs less than US $5. Sugar on a Stick runs on netbooks, but it also runs on hand-me-down computers, typical of those found in schools, that can only limp along running Windows.

We invite you to contact as we will be pleased to answer any of your questions about Sugar, the free learning platform used in schools every day in countries around the world.''

There are ideas that change the world, we see that as we apply them, these kinds of ideas never sleep.
<link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' A local pilot user group from which to learn
* A local passion or sub-goal that provides a rational for the work
* Bi-directional communication with the global Sugar community and other Sugar Labs
* A sustainable and well-defined entrepreneurship model
* A program to reach out to local free-software community and local industry.
* A marketing program or roadmap

Internally each local labs, have to divide responsibilities between the individuals to achieve objectives, implement programs and with that reach sustainability.

But overall the people involved have to be passionate about education and free software, they have to be passionate about cultural and social changes, they have to share their knowledge and construct innovation starting from the joy of collaboration, because after all, love is better master than duty.

now we have three Local Labs starting around the world, we expect that many would start between this and next year.

* http://co.sugarlabs.org/go/Laboratorios_Azúcar_Colombia Colombia Local type='text'>Local Labs organization (I)

As intended from the beginning, SugarLabs is a distributed FLOSS organization, anyone can be part of Sugarlabs and also can found organizations that can support or share the same or similar objectives Sugarlabs is supporting.

Local Labs are organized to supply specific needings of countries where sugar is deployed,
some of them are constituted of volunteers that want to have economic support to be able to help,
in other words they need help to help others, but this organizations although motivated by charity are doing entrepreneurship models to be soustanaible and scalable, to include and not to exclude all learners (parents, teachers, students, developers and deployers).

Although the local labs effort is young we have seen a nascent interest on it, because we are looking for a more independent way of thinking and this thinking has to be applied not only to ideas but also to real life procedures; liberty generates empathy and facilitates inclusion of new supporters and cultivates ideas.

But independence doesn't mean ignoring other people's point of view, and local labs have to have a good communication between them and the overall Sugarlabs that is also composed of local labs,
in a way of saying there is not a centralized Sugarlabs, there is a central place of virtual gathering namely mail-lists, wiki's and IRC channels.

Some orgs (not necessarily FLOSS oriented) have chosen the other way around, they impose all in a centralized way.
but this is not sustainable or scalable and then they have been doing some fragmentation of it's own orgs in entities like nemeorg-LA or nameorg-India or nameorg-USA. and each one independent from the central nameorg but without an straight-trough way of communication between them, in other words, they are now adopting some of the federated way of thinking but without having the advantages of it, the future for these centralized organizations is not too bright because they are exercising the same top-down ideas in all it's fragmented partners, when they try to impose
or ''give'' a solution to different countries or third-parties, they are working ''for'' them and not ''with'' them, this generate opossing forces that act against their progress even from the start, so they have to work not only to solve the problems that it's mission implies but also these pre-existent forces, due to the fact that artificial solutions don't solve the real needs of communities because they ''interpret'' communities needs and don't work side-by-side to solve them.

The first part of this blog talks about the need for a distributed FLOSS organization, the second part would discuss it's organization specifics, what we are lacking and what we are doing well.

SugarLabs, Local Labs, World labs.

So we have begun a good way to distribute a FLOSS project, we share ideas with people that have been thinking on it for a while now, including Walter Bender, Sebastian Silva, Edward Cherling David Farning, Tomeu Visozo and others (all sugar labs community ;)), i think in some way the people that is working on SugarLabs (http://sugarlabs.org/), share the same concepts about how to help in breaking status quo.

At the beginning we had questions about how to make Sugar deployments better, how to reach the broad community, because sugar it's not only aimed to developers, it's truth aim are teachers, students and parents, (iirc) David Farning proposed that the development of all SugarLabs should be oriented by teams, and thous we have deployment team.

http://sugarlabs.org/go/DeploymentTeam

But even more we were worried about how to facilitate the distribution and development of Sugar in the world and now we have Local Labs

http://sugarlabs.org/go/Local_Labs

Ok i want to get back to this post in another take..but for me this last link tries to achieve a worldwide, active and distributed community of practice, that being software developers, students, teachers, parents, industry, academics...entire cultures trying to work on resolving local and global issues related to enhance education.
<link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml'
