Statistics: Posted by brainstuff — Thu Dec 26, 2024 1:13 pm

But in this list is missing action that causes problem - at fullscreen view moving mouse to top of screen to see photo index for the moment, and then this problem appears for next photos. When problem exist (so X is not seen for tagged photo) pressing "i" turn off visibility of tag status, and pressing again "i" shows properly tagged photo. But only for this one photo when key "i" is used. Next photos still has problem. So there is a bug for sure.
If problem is on (so X is not visible for tagged photo) going forward one photo, and then going back causes that X is visible properly on first photo. But again - only for this one photo where you make action with going forward and back, or pressing double time "i". Next photos with tag shows still empty square brackets. This is very annoying for work.
Statistics: Posted by eye2eye — Thu Dec 26, 2024 1:07 pm

 108. It would be quite useful if there were a tickbox on the save settings (both the one-off save and the batch converter) to tag JPEG-LI saves with the save options chosen, indicating JPEG-LI and the save options chosen, and the saving program (XnView with version). I think it would only take a few bytes, and would be optional. Perhaps similarly with other formats.
The reason for this is that many of us will have zillions of photos and will often convert them piecemeal, and this meta info would be useful for keeping track of which have been done and which haven't.
David
Statistics: Posted by meteorquake — Thu Dec 26, 2024 7:17 am

 248. Often, users will want to see a group of images all at the same time.

XnView MP already has a "Compare" function that offers tools for comparing images, but it is limited to a maximum of four images at any one time.

The program also has a "Contact Sheet" function, which can be used to group as many images as one wants, but with a good amount of sizing and calculating needed by the user.

What I would like to see added is a simple "View selected images together" function, where the user has only to select any number of images then hit the "View selected images together" button and XnView MP will open all of them in a single view window, sizing each as necessary so that they all fit.

I currently improvise this with the Contact sheet function's "Preview" window. I have the contact sheet's size set to match the window exactly, but it still requires a mental calculation as to how many rows and columns are needed.

So, the idea here is instead of the somewhat laborious Create > Contact Sheet > [let's see, I've got 17 images selected so I can do 4 rows and 4 columns--no that's not enough... 6 rows and 3 columns-- yes that will work] > input "6" for rows then "3" for columns > press "Preview"; the user can simply select the 17 images and then one button (or one keyboard shortcut) and Boom! XnView MP does all the work.

The function could go even further. For example, in the resulting view of the grouped images, clicking any one of them would make that image open in a new view by itself. Or, Ctrl-clicking 2, 3, 4 of them would make those 2, 3, 4 images open grouped in another view, etc.

As always, thanks for your consideration et surtout Belles Fêtes de Fin d'Année !
Statistics: Posted by KLE-France — Tue Dec 24, 2024 12:55 pm

 318. I'm putting this in 'support' rather than 'suggestions' because the feature may already exist. The thumbnail file may grow very large, and it would be better to have it on the large-capacity external drive.

*) The thumbnails will be on the same drive as the images, which seems like a good idea for various reasons...

*) The external drive could be used on another computer running XnView, and the thumbnails wouldn't need to be re-generated.

*) The external drive could be used on another compuer *with a different operating system* running XnView, and the thumbnails wouldn't need to be regenerated (if they are stored in same format in Linux, MacOS and Windows - I don't know?)

*) If the drive has encryption (I have a Samsung T7 Touch with fingerprint reader) then the thumbnails would only be on that drive and also be encrypted, same as the images.

I can see this being problematic, from basic stuff like what if the drive letter or name is changed, and how can you define when a drive is 'external' / removable.

But is this doable, or are there workarounds to get similar results, or would this be a valid feature request if it isn't currently there?

Thank you!
Statistics: Posted by Roginald — Mon Dec 23, 2024 9:20 pm
